Gold Profit Calculator — XAUUSD CFD & Futures P/L

Work out exactly what a gold trade makes or loses before you enter it. Supports spot XAUUSD CFDs (lot-based) and COMEX GC/MGC futures — including spread, commission and swap costs.

How to Calculate Gold CFD Profit

A gold CFD is a contract to exchange the difference in the gold price between opening and closing. One standard XAUUSD lot = 100 troy ounces, so the gross P/L is:

Gross P/L (USD) = (Exit − Entry) × 100 oz × Lots
Net P/L = Gross P/L − Spread − Commission − Swap

Worked example: buy 0.10 lot at $4,100.00, sell at $4,150.00. Move = $50.00 × 10 oz (0.10 lot) = $500 gross. With a 35-cent spread ($3.50) the net is $496.50. That is also 5,000 pips (0.01) on a position worth $0.10 per pip — the pip math always reconciles with the dollar math.

How to Calculate Gold Futures Profit

Futures use fixed contract sizes: the GC is 100 oz with a 0.10 tick worth $10 and a $1.00 point worth $100; the MGC mini is 10 oz with $1 ticks and $10 points.

P/L (USD) = Points Moved × Point Value × Contracts

Worked example: long 2 GC contracts at $2,400.00, exit at $2,420.00 → 20 points × $100 × 2 = $4,000. Futures trades clear through exchange margin — a losing position can be liquidated before you close it, so always keep a stop.

FAQ

How do I calculate profit on a gold trade?

Multiply the price move (exit minus entry) by the contract size and position size. CFD: (exit - entry) x 100 oz x lots. Futures: points moved x point value x contracts. Then subtract spread, swap and commission.

How much profit is a $10 move in gold?

A $10 move on one standard XAUUSD lot (100 oz) is $1,000 gross; on 0.10 lot it is $100; on 0.01 lot it is $10. On one GC futures contract it is also $1,000 (10 points x $100).

What is the profit formula for gold CFDs?

Gross profit = (closing price - opening price) x contract size x lots. For a buy: closing minus opening. For a sell: opening minus closing. Net profit subtracts spread, commission and overnight swap.

How much is a pip worth in gold profit terms?

1 pip (0.01 move) on a standard lot of 100 oz is $1.00; on a mini lot (10 oz) $0.10; on a micro lot (1 oz) $0.01. So a 100-pip move on a standard lot is $100.

Do swap fees apply to gold futures?

No. Futures contracts have no overnight swap — the margin system and daily settlement handle financing. Swap/rollover costs apply to spot gold CFDs held overnight, not to GC or MGC futures.

What lot size should I trade in gold?

Base it on risk: lots = risk amount / (stop in pips x pip value per lot). Risking 1% of a $10,000 account with a 50-pip stop at $10 per pip per lot = 1.00 standard lot. Use the Gold Lot Size Calculator for exact sizing.
