EX5 vs MQ5: Compiled EA vs Editable Source Code
An `.ex5` file is the compiled MetaTrader 5 program you can run. An `.mq5` file is the editable source code developers modify and recompile. Traders often download EX5 for testing, then buy MQ5 source when they need customization, learning, white-label rights, or private builds.
Can You Edit an EX5?
Practically, no. EX5 is compiled. You can change exposed inputs, but you cannot safely edit the internal strategy logic, order handling, risk manager, buffers or dashboard code without the MQ5 source.
