Oil & Energy Historical Data — Free Crude Oil & Natural Gas CSV Downloads
Download free energy historical data for three instruments — Brent crude (UKOIL), WTI crude (USOIL) and natural gas (XNGUSD) — exported from a live MetaTrader 5 feed. Every dataset contains nine timeframes from M1 to Monthly in a clean CSV format ready for MT5 backtesting, Python research and machine learning. WTI goes back to January 2017 and includes the April 2020 negative-price day; Brent starts one week before the COVID crash; natural gas starts at the 2022 European energy crisis. Exported 19 October 2026.

Each ZIP contains the complete timeframe set for one instrument: M1, M5, M15, M30, H1, H4, D1, W1 and MN1 — as separate CSV files with the columns Timestamp, Open, High, Low, Close, TickVolume, Spread. Pick your instrument below, or grab the full bundle with all 27 CSV files in one download.
UKOILBrent Crude Oil
Brent crude — the global benchmark, from January 2020 through COVID, the 2022 $139 spike and the 2024–2026 cycle.
USOILWTI Crude Oil
WTI crude oil — the deepest energy dataset here, from January 2017, including the April 2020 negative-price day.
XNGUSDNatural Gas
Natural gas — from March 2022, capturing the European energy crisis and the post-crisis normalization.
What Is Inside Every Energy Dataset
- Nine timeframes, one ZIP: M1, M5, M15, M30, H1, H4, D1, W1 and MN1 as separate CSV files.
- Seven columns: Timestamp, Open, High, Low, Close, TickVolume, Spread — broker server time.
- Real broker feed: exported from a live MT5 terminal, not scraped from a futures exchange — so it matches what your EA sees in the Strategy Tester.
- Event history included: the April 2020 negative WTI print, the 2022 oil spike above $130 and the 2022 European gas crisis are all inside these files, untouched.
- 1,293,277 candles across the three instruments.
M1, M5 and M15 files contain the most recent 100,000 candles each — the MetaTrader 5 terminal window. M30 and above carry the full downloaded history for the instrument.
Why the Ranges Differ — and Why This Is Not Futures Data
| Instrument | Symbol | Range | Why |
|---|---|---|---|
| WTI Crude Oil | USOILm | Jan 2017 – Oct 2026 | The deepest energy history on this site — includes the 20 April 2020 negative-price day in the M30-and-higher files. |
| Brent Crude Oil | UKOILm | Jan 2020 – Oct 2026 | Starts one week before the COVID crash and covers the 2022 spike to $139. |
| Natural Gas | XNGUSDm | Mar 2022 – Oct 2026 | Starts at the onset of the European energy crisis — the most volatile window in gas history. |
Important distinction: these are CFD feeds from a broker, not NYMEX/ICE futures data. There are no contract rolls or expiry adjustments — the series is the continuous CFD price your MT5 terminal quotes. That is the correct input for backtesting the CFD symbols you actually trade; for futures roll research you would need a futures-specific source.
How to Use the Energy Data
- Download an instrument's ZIP (or the bundle) and extract the CSV files.
- For MT5: create a custom symbol (Market Watch → Symbols → Create Custom Symbol → Import Bars) and import the CSVs.
- For Python: load with pandas, parse the Timestamp column, sort ascending and build features (returns, range, volatility, session flags).
- Validate before modeling: duplicate timestamps, OHLC violations and unexpected gaps are the three checks that catch most bad imports.
- Keep the daily settlement break, rollover spread widening and weekend gaps in your assumptions — energy CFDs are not 24/7 like crypto.
Oil & Energy Historical Data — FAQ
Is the oil and energy historical data really free?
Yes — every dataset on this page is free. Clicking a download link opens a one-time email unlock: we send a single confirmation email to verify your address (no spam, never sold or shared). After that your browser is remembered for 30 days and every dataset downloads instantly. Each ZIP contains nine CSV files from M1 to Monthly.
Which energy instruments are available?
Three: UKOIL (Brent crude), USOIL (WTI crude) and XNGUSD (natural gas). A combined bundle with all 27 CSV files is also available as a single download.
What date ranges do the energy datasets cover?
Ranges differ honestly per instrument — the table above explains each one. WTI (USOIL) goes back to January 2017, Brent (UKOIL) to January 2020 — one week before the COVID crash — and natural gas (XNGUSD) to March 2022, the start of the European energy crisis. All three end with the latest bar at export time, 19 October 2026.
Is this NYMEX or ICE futures data?
No — this is the broker CFD feed, exported from a live MetaTrader 5 terminal. It contains no futures contract rolls or expiry adjustments, which is exactly what you want when backtesting the CFD symbols you actually trade. For futures-specific roll research you need a futures data source; for MT5 EA development this feed is the correct series.
Can I use this energy data for MT5 backtesting and Python?
Yes. The CSV format (Timestamp, Open, High, Low, Close, TickVolume, Spread) imports into MT5 as a custom symbol and loads directly in pandas, Excel, R and machine-learning pipelines such as LSTM, XGBoost and Random Forest. Energy CFDs trade nearly around the clock on weekdays with a daily settlement break — the data reflects real broker sessions.
