How is forex taxed differently from crypto?

It depends on the country: the US treats retail FX as ordinary income under Section 988, Japan has a special 20.315% FX rate, the UK taxes it as capital gains but keeps spread betting tax-free, and several countries (Switzerland, Singapore, UAE, Malaysia) do not tax private FX gains at all.
